Multidisciplinary artist Naomi Hobson lives and works on Country in Coen, a small town on the Cape York Peninsula surrounded by rainforest, open woodland and rivers, and home to the Kaantju, Umpila, LamaLama, Ayapathu, Wik Mungkan and Olkola clans. Naomi belongs to the Kaantju language group and Patta skin group, after the Death Adder snake. Her work addresses the powerful and ancient links between Country and identity, and asserts a strong and confident vision of her community. Naomi’s painting, sculpture and photographic portraiture has been exhibited widely and held in major collections across Australia and the world.
The love story of the little River Rock Cod and the Red Kangaroo, Naomi’s series of ceramic works, addresses the powerful and ancient links between Country and identity.
