The National Portrait Gallery’s publishing program comprises magazines, books and catalogues, learning resources, and online publishing.
We are passionate about this element of the Gallery’s outreach, and conscious of its central role in increasing public engagement with the collection and our exhibitions, and, through this, broadening the knowledge and understanding of portraiture and Australian history. Gallery publications have won numerous national design and publishing awards.
They feature a wide range of expert insights from curatorial staff, academics and prominent thinkers, exploring the genre of portraiture and its role in shaping Australian culture and identity.
