The Gallery places education at its core and is a national destination for learning through portraiture.
Opportunities are available for all levels of interest and expertise, and are created on-site, off-site and online to engage audiences locally, nationally and internationally.
Education programs at the Gallery are delivered by engaging learning facilitators, artists, portrait subjects and many other experts who consider:
- the conventions of portraiture, such as pose, expression, and gaze;
- how portraiture relates to identity and culture;
- ways to interpret portraits and develop important visual thinking skills;
- the contributions of important individuals to Australian society;
- events and ideas as they have shaped Australia; and
- individuals who have excelled and contributed to society from diverse backgrounds and fields of endeavour. You are invited to contribute to these programs, to expand and enrich learning opportunities provided by the Gallery.
