- Do you wanna just tell us about how this incredible portrait came into being?
- Yeah, I first saw Zaachariaha Fielding perform with electric fields at Fair Day for Mardi Gras back in 2019 and they just blew me away, one of the best live bands I've ever seen. And we kind of crossed paths a couple of times, I'm from Adelaide and had some mutual contacts and reached out to him to see whether he'd be interested in sitting for this portrait, and thankfully he said yes, and really honoured to have had that opportunity, 'cause he's a really extraordinary musician who's really inspired me. So yeah, I hope that I sort of captured something of that in the painting.
- And is portraiture something that, a genre that you normally work in?
- Yeah, I think it's my main passion. Yeah, I'm just really interested in people and there's something about just getting to know someone and spending time with someone, and I guess trying to capture their essence in a painting that I find really rewarding, and particularly people who perform live on stage. You know, when they're creating something that's sort of ephemeral and just exists in that live environment. There's something I find very satisfying about trying to capture that energy. There's sort of permanence of an oil painting.
