Ellis Stones

Ellis Stones (1895-1975) was a foundation member of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects. Encouraged by Edna Walling, and himself a mentor to Gordon Ford, Stones was one of the most influential architects of Australian bush garden design, promoting the use of rocks and native plants to create an informal effect. He designed some of the gardens at the University of Melbourne and is commemorated by that institution's Ellis Stones Memorial Award.
