Taracarijimo Freda Warlapinni (c. 1928–2004) was a Tiwi woman from Mirrikawuyanga Country on Melville Island. One of the Stolen Generations, she was taken from her parents as a child and raised by Catholic missionaries on Bathurst Island. She moved back to Milikapiti on Melville Island in about 1970. Prior to 1996, her painting experience was specific to ceremonial body painting. In her seventies she began painting in ochre on paper, bark and canvas, and later printmaking, quickly becoming well known among the senior Tiwi artists. She also mentored younger artists at Jilamara Arts and Crafts. Influenced by the designs on ceremonial pukumani poles, Warlapinni's work features loosely applied compositions of mulypinyini (lines) and pwanga (dots) on black or white backgrounds. The late artist's work is held in public and private collections.
