Jo Bertini (b. 1964) is a Sydney painter, art educator, lecturer and writer. After completing a BA in Fine Arts at Sydney University in the early 1980s, she worked around the world as a writer and illustrator for some years and lived in Italy for a decade. She returned to Sydney in 2000 to marry and study life drawing, painting and printmaking at the National Art School. Best known for her paintings and drawings of desert landscapes, people and animals, her work is held in public and private collections both nationally and internationally. Her 2014 book, Fieldwork: Jo Bertini, celebrates her long engagement with the Australian desert. Bertini has been a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the Portia Geach Memorial Award, Wynne Prize, Tattersalls Art Prize, Calleen Art Award, Mosman Art Prize and Sulman Prize. The National Portrait Gallery acquired her painting The Sitter: Drusilla Modjeska in 2002, and Kitty Kantilla and Freda Warlapinni at Milikapiti (Snake Bay) in 2004.
