The Macquarie Digital Portraiture Award supports artists between the ages of 18 and 30 years working with screen-based technology. A panel of judges selected the six digital portraits on display from an open call for submissions. The works were chosen for their unique and striking explorations of identity. The digital portraits are accompanied by statements written by the artists.
The winner of the Macquarie Digital Portraiture Award for 2013 is Nik Lee.
With the generous support of Macquarie Group Foundation, the National Portrait Gallery offered a $10,000 bursary to the artist judged to have made the most outstanding screen-based digital portrait. The artist awarded the Macquarie Digital Portraiture Award for 2013 was also given the opportunity to undertake an artist residency at The Edge at the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane, with support and creative mentorship from the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) and Media Art Asia Pacific (MAAP).
