Actors like Tom Selleck and Burt Reynolds, it has been suggested, were partly responsible for popularising the cultivation by 70s men of these thick thatches of face foliage. It’s a fashion most strongly associated in Australia with sportsmen for its presence on the faces of numerous legends.
