Unless we tell you that you can’t, and as long as it’s for personal use, you can take photos and videos (under five minutes) with small hand-held devices of the artworks and in public areas of the Gallery. Keep an eye out for signage such as the ‘No Photos’ icon.
When taking photos, remember:
- you can’t photograph anyone under the age of 18
- not to use your flash, any lighting, a tripod, monopole or selfie-stick
- keep your distance from the artworks (check behind you too!)
- be mindful of the safety and enjoyment of staff and fellow visitors
- you’re ultimately responsible for all Copyright and First Nations Cultural and Intellectual permissions for any photos or footage you take
- we can ask you to stop taking photos or videos for any reason
If you want to reproduce, publish or communicate works displayed at the Gallery or on our website – including in print, digitally, online, and more – we need you to either fill in the Copyright image request form or email copyright@npg.gov.au
For any media and commercial photography or filming within and external to the building, you’ll need prior approval, and it may be subject to fees. For media enquiries, please email media@npg.gov.au and for commercial requests please email info@npg.gov.au. Of course, the more notice you give us, the better we may be able to help you.
