The National Portrait Gallery is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Canberra-based leading mobile application development consultancy, Stripy Sock.
The partnership between the Gallery and Stripy Sock will revolve around the second stage in the development of a mobile application that assists self-guided education tours.
Director of the Portrait Gallery, Angus Trumble, is enthusiastic about the partnership around this digital project.
‘It is becoming increasingly important for the Portrait Gallery to deliver flexible and accessible programs to visitors. With digital reliance on the rise, there is an opportunity for us to expand our own horizons and embrace new technology to deliver information and engage with our visitors,’ said Angus.
‘Stripy Sock are strong supporters of our mission to create an application that while digital will not detract from the experience of being at the Gallery. We do not want to remove the physical atmosphere of the Gallery but rather increase and intensify the way our visitors interact and engage with the art.’
Founder of Stripy Sock, Jake MacMullin, believes the partnership is a fantastic opportunity for both organisations.
'Whilst we love using the latest technology at Stripy Sock we’re not just interested in technology for its own sake but rather how it can improve people’s experiences. Sometimes the best technology is the technology you don’t even notice,' said Jake.
‘We are excited to be the National Portrait Gallery's digital partner and hope to help increase people's understanding and appreciation of the Australian people through portraiture whether they're visiting the gallery in person or flicking through portraits on their iPad in their lounge room.’
Stripy Sock was formed in 2014 by founders Jake MacMullin and Ben Trengrove. With over 20 years combined experience of building mobile apps. They have worked with national institutions such as the ABC, CSIRO, National Library of Australia and the National Gallery of Australia.
