This portrait is called Jaye and it's a photo of my friend. She's a member of the Multicultural Society in Geraldton. She came into the art gallery one day, which is where I work, and she was a very interesting character. I asked if I could take her portrait, and so I went over to her house and we took some photographs for about an hour in the front room. It wasn't quite gelling and it wasn't the one that I wanted. I walked outside and then just saw this clothesline with all this character on it, and I was like, "Jaye, I'm so sorry, we've got to get you in front of the clothesline because that's the photo there". She's worked in China, specifically conservation with pandas, working with the zoos.
