‘Canon’s aim is to provide platforms for artistic expression and inspiration, so we are thrilled to be partnering with the National Portrait Gallery for their highest award,’ said Andrew Giles, Senior Manager of Communications and Public Relations, Canon Australia.
‘We are ultimately known for the amazing things that people do with our cameras, lenses and printers, and the winner of this award will certainly be able to take full advantage of the creative possibilities the prize offers.’
The Director of the National Portrait Gallery, Angus Trumble, is proud to see the National Photographic Portrait Prize grow each year.
‘The National Photographic Portrait Prize is now in its twelfth year. Over that time, the Prize has gone from strength to strength. We have seen entry numbers double, and supporters of the prize help us increase the benefits for the finalists,’ said Trumble.
‘The Prize supports photographers and encourages them to push the boundaries of portraiture. Winners often say the Prize changed their professional lives for the better and that is why we encourage both professional and aspiring photographers to enter, not just for the chance to win, but for the opportunity to be displayed in Australia’s only portrait gallery.’
Entries are open until 9.00am (AEDT) on 23 October 2018. Finalists will be announced in December and the winner will be revealed at the opening of the exhibition in February 2019.
