2019-20 Acquisition Fund

The Witching Hour - Elena Kats-Chernin, 2017 Wendy Sharpe. © Wendy Sharpe

The Gallery thanks you for your donations towards the acquisition of this large, vibrant portrait of Elena Kats-Chernin by Wendy Sharpe.

We would be grateful for any support you may like to provide toward the acquisition of future works.

Elena Kats-Chernin AO is an eminent contemporary Australian pianist and composer. Among her many commissions are pieces for Opera Australia, the Australian Chamber Orchestra; the Australian World Orchestra; the Adelaide, Tasmanian, Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestras; the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra; and a myriad of international orchestras. The Witching Hour refers to a concerto composed by Kats-Chernin in 2016.

Wendy Sharpe is one of Australia’s most awarded artists and, although she does not refer to herself as a portrait artist, she has a great interest in painting people. She is a committed creator with a sumptuous, distinctive style. We are excited about the acquisition of The Witching Hour, because not only is it a wonderful portrait but it is also the first Wendy Sharpe work in our permanent collection.
