Miranda Otto (b. 1967), actress, is the daughter of the prominent Australian actor Barry Otto. She made her film debut as a teenager in Emma's War (1986). After graduating from NIDA in 1991 she delivered AFI-nominated performances in The Last Days of Chez Nous (1992), The Well (1997) and In the Winter Dark (1998). Her U.S. debut came in Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line (1998). She was reportedly set to star in the subversive comedy Being John Malkovich (1999) before her part was given to the higher-profile Cameron Diaz. In 2000 she was the troubled next-door neighbour of Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford in What Lies Beneath, and in 2002 she appeared in the substantial role of Eowyn in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002). She will reprise the part in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, due for release in late 2003. She recently appeared in the Australian film Danny Deckchair (2003).
