The National Portrait Gallery mourns the loss of our colleague and friend Betty Churcher, AO. Betty was Dean of the School of Art and Design, Phillip Institute of Technology (now part of RMIT) in Melbourne during the 1980s; Director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth from 1987 to 1990, and Director of the Australian National Gallery, as it was then known, in Canberra from 1990 to 1997. To her family and other friends we extend our heartfelt condolences.
