Thomas Buddle (1812–1883), Wesleyan missionary, worked for 42 years in New Zealand, ministering to Maori and colonists in the Waikato, Auckland and the south. By the time he retired he had filled the highest Methodist offices in New Zealand and had been president of the Australasian General Conference (in 1863). A father of ten, he translated the Bible into Maori for the Bible Society.
