Patrick Olodoodi Tjungurrayi (c. 1935-2017), Kukatja/Pintupi painter, was born at Yalangerri near Jupiter Well. He walked from his traditional country into the old Balgo Mission and worked on the housing at the new Balgo site, building stone houses and the church in which he was married to Miriam Olodoodi. (In Balgo, he is known as Patrick Olodoodi.) A senior law man, he was responsible for perpetuating traditional ceremonies in the Balgo area, Kiwirrkurra and Kintore in the western desert. Having begun painting in the early 1980s, he won the inaugural WA Indigenous Art Award of $50 000 in 2008 and is rated as one of Australia's most collectable artists. He is represented in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the South Australian Museum.
