Sage (b. 1963) was born in Wales and studied at the School of Documentary Photography in South Wales under magnum photographer David Hurn. He was part of The Valleys Project (1994), a group exhibition at Ffotogallery in Cardiff that included British photographer David Bailey. Sage has freelanced for the Phoenix Gazette in Arizona as well as in London and Bristol for Fleet Street. He moved to Australia in 1989 and was employed as a staff photographer at the Sydney Morning Herald. In London in 1994 he worked for magazines including The Sunday Review, Guardian Magazine, Vogue, Elle, Sight and Sound and Saturday Times, before returning to Australia in 1996. His portraits have been published in magazines including The Financial Review Magazine, Oyster, GQ Magazine and Good Weekend. In 1999 Sage was part of Glossy, a group show at the National Portrait Gallery, and the following year he had a retrospective exhibition at the Lens Gallery in Sydney.
