Victor Greenhalgh (1900-1983) was a sculptor and teacher who greatly influenced tertiary art education; he was one of the first Victorian sculptors to adopt a modern style. He was commissioned to sculpt the King George V statue, Ballarat, as well as the eight portrait busts of Australian Prime Ministers which line the Avenue of Prime Ministers in the Botanical Gardens in Ballarat. The National Portrait Gallery has 3 works by Victor Greenhalgh in its collection: Sir William McMahon 1973, Harold Holt 1969 and John Gorton 1970, which were all studies for or casts of the Prime Minister busts in Ballarat.
