Tuisko Turso (‘TT’) Seppelt (1891-1957) was Victorian manager of the Seppelt wine company from 1917. TT was the grandson of Josef Seppelt, who bought property in the Barossa in 1852 and called it Seppeltsfield. Josef’s son Benno took over Seppeltsfield on his father’s death, and by 1900 he had vastly expanded the B Seppelt wine business, while taking on production of bacon and wool. In 1916 he bought Chateau Tanunda and in 1918 the firm took over the Lyndoch and Great Western vineyards near Ararat, Victoria. Benno and his wife Sophie had sixteen children, of whom nine sons and four daughters survived. Tuisko Turso attended Prince Alfred College before working at the Queensland branch of B Seppelt from 1910 to 1917. Henceforth, he was based in Melbourne. His son, Hilton Mervyn, joined the firm in 1936 after returning from Montpellier Agricultural College.
