Tracey Holmes (b. 1966), sports broadcaster and journalist, has covered twelve Olympic Games and was the first woman to host an Australian national sports program, Grandstand. Born in Sydney to a surfing family, Holmes' parents took her to South Africa when she was three, where they lived for four years. They then lived in Hawaii. She began her career in 1989 with a sports broadcasting cadetship at the ABC Radio, where she hosted Grandstand in the early 1990s. Her job as a media spokesperson for the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games led to a role as co-host of the 1998 FIFA World Cup. This was followed by a position as a sports presenter with Channel Seven, in which role she was the network's face of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Later that year she moved overseas with partner Stan Grant and worked as a sports presenter and broadcaster in Hong Kong and Beijing for China Central TV News, an English language news channel. Returning to Australia in 2006, Holmes was re-appointed as the host for Grandstand. In 2009, Holmes worked for CNN in Abu Dhabi, covering social issues, business and sports in the Middle East; two years later she rejoined China Central TV News in Beijing as an anchor. After moving back to Australia with her family in 2014, Holmes returned to the ABC hosting various radio programs including the award-winning sports program and podcast The Ticket. Twice named as a finalist in the Walkley awards, Holmes is a published author, lectures in journalism at the University of Technology, Sydney, and is a senior mentor for the International Olympic Committee's Young Reporters program.
