Scoring first prize in New South Wales for Art in the 1983 HSC was a signal that a talented creative career lay ahead and this has indeed proven the case. From his first professional position as a art director within high profile advertising agency, Lintas, Houston has continued to flex his creative muscle across a broad range of pursuits, from ceramic sculpture to illustration. Significantly though it has been photography where he has made his most indelible mark. Today, Houston holds the mantle for capturing natural beauty in its prime. Inspired by the early heroic aesthetic of ancient mythology, Houston has successfully refined his unique style which combines equal parts form and movement with a quality of light and tone that draws the eye with an intriguing sense of clarity and glow. A number of successful exhibitions of his now highly coveted nudes culminating with the publication of his quality photographic tome 'RAW' as published by Craftsman House. This has earned Houston an increasingly global reputation which has been further championed by his aawards for Best Book Desing, Best Cover and Art Direction at the recent Australian Publishing Awards. Artistic pursuits aside, Houston's dynamic energy has also swiftly established him as one of Austrralia's pre-eminent photographers in the commercial context with an impressive showcase of clients including Peter Alexander Lane Crawford, Cue, Events, Aherns, Myer, Portmans, Oxford and David Jones. At the same time he remans in demand with Australia's top magazine titles the calliber of Harper's Bazaar, Bogue, Australian Syle, Black & White, Cleo, Cosmopolitan and Oyster.
