Professor Frank Fenner's outstanding career has been marked by two achievements of considerable magnitude, namely the eradication of smallpox and the introduction of myxomatosis in Australia for rabbit control. Amongst other achievements Professor Fenner undertook significant studies into Malaria in World War II which had a significant impact on the success of the New Guinea campaign and for which he was awarded an MBE. He was also the Director of the John Curtin School of Medical Research for six years.
