Edward Richards, photographer, has lived and worked in Canberra for most of his life. From 1964 to 1967 he worked in the photographic unit of the John Curtin School of Medical Research and between 2002 and 2007 he carried out similar work at the War Memorial. In between, he was self employed as a commercial photographer, operating a photography business in Manuka in the 1970s and the 1980s. He also photographed around Canberra for his own enjoyment and in the 1960s took a series of photographs of Canberra scenes. Although many prints and negatives of his work were destroyed in a fire some years ago, he was able to locate thirty-eight original negatives, the prints of which are now in the Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) Collection. In the early 1980s Richards photographed churches by Edmund Blacket, for the publication accompanying an exhibition Joan Kerr curated for the SH Ervin Gallery in 1983. A retrospective of Richards's work was held at CMAG in 2008.
