Dinny Nolan Tjampitjinpa (b. c. 1944) is a painter and senior custodian for the Warlpiri people. He was born near Yuendumu in the Western Desert and worked as a stockman for many years. After moving to Papunya in the mid-1970s he became an artist. Through his works he shares his Rainmaking and Water Dreamings, designs that he also paints on men for traditional ceremonies. In 1981 Tjampitjinpa and fellow artist Paddy Carroll Tjungurrayi constructed the first sand painting to be seen outside of Central Australia, in the grounds of the SH Ervin Gallery in Sydney. Tjampitjinpa's works are held in major collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
