Chris Hemsworth AM (b. 1983), one of Australia's best-known actors, appeared in a number of television shows including Neighbours, Saddle Club and Marshall Law before joining the cast of Home and Away in 2004. After appearing in 170 episodes he left the show in 2007, later acknowledging that his role in the soap opera didn't help him being considered a serious actor. Moving to the USA, his breakthrough came in 2011 when he was cast as the lead in Thor, which grossed over $400 million worldwide. Hemsworth reprised the role of Thor in The Avengers (2012), which, grossed $1.5 billion; and in the sequels Thor: The Dark World (2013) and The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Subsequent films include Vacation (2015), The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016), the remake of Ghostbusters (2016), and Men in Black International (2019). The third film in the Thor franchise was released in 2017; and the third and fourth films in the Avengers series appeared in 2018 and 2019 respectively. In 2020 he starred in the Netflix thriller Extraction, which broke the streaming platform's viewership record in the first month of its release. Having famously beefed up and buffed up for his various outings as Thor, Hemsworth's diet and workout regimens have been the subject of features in Men's Health and other publications, and led to him starting the fitness and nutrition app Centr in 2019. He regularly features in lists of the world's highest paid celebrities. The fourth Thor film, Thor: Love and Thunder is due to be released in 2022.
