Bridget Elliot (b. 1958), photographer, is acknowledged for her significant portraits of Australian composers and musical performers. Growing up in Zimbabwe and going to university in South Africa, Elliot became intrigued by the alien soundscape of the music of Peter Sculthorpe. In 1986 she came to Australia on a two-year contract, but chose to stay. In the mid-1990s she began to photograph Australian musicians, beginning with Roger Woodward, who gave her his address book. Since then she has photographed more than 200 Australian composers and performers including Miriam Hyde, Ross Edwards, Elena Kats-Chernin, Richard Meale and Brett Dean. Elliot’s work is represented in the National Library of Australia and has been exhibited at various galleries as well as the Sydney Opera House, the Australian Music Centre, the Sydney Conservatorium and Australia Council for the Arts. Her photographs have appeared in countless programs and on CD covers as well as publications including Limelight; Fine Music; Music Forum; the Australian Financial Review; the Sydney Morning Herald; the Sun Herald; the Age; the Australian; the Courier Mail. In 2006 Elliot and Annarosa Berman published the book The Company We Keep: an intimate celebration of Opera Australia.
