Marzena Wasikowska

Living Memory Finalist

At the height of the 2020 Covid-19 lockdowns in Sydney and Melbourne, some respite from the social upheaval was possible on the far south coast of New South Wales for those who were able to escape restrictions on movement. However, the psychological impact of the pandemic was ever-present. My daughter, Mia, granddaughter, Olympia, and the sublime Tathra landscape became unwitting visual symbols for conflicting extremes associated with the pandemic – hope or despair, opportunity or catastrophe, life or death.
