Melbourne’s CBD-fringe suburb Docklands reads like an ominous scene from a Hayao Miyazaki film. Its urban form presents a cacophony of mismatched shapes, angles and scales set to a windswept soundscape. Shadows loom, gaps swallow, carparks lie empty – the product of a place that’s had its history bleached in all but name. What results is something surreal: a 21st-century space that mirrors the increasing solitude of our digital lives.
