National Photographic Portrait Prize 2009 Finalist
John Sinclair is one of Australia's foremost conservationists. In 1976 he was declared Australian of the Year by the Australian newspaper for leading the successful campaign to protect Fraser Island from sand mining. In 1993 he was awarded the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize for his ongoing conservation activities. He has been a pioneer of ecotourism in Australia since 1968, leading his Go Bush safari groups to all parts of Australia, particularly natural World Heritage sites. His deep interest in Australia's cultural heritage includes both Aboriginal and non Aboriginal culture, and he has always worked to make ecotourism a vehicle for assisting local community development. This image was captured in Kakadu, on tour with John Sinclair during the hot and humid 2008 wet season.
