National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010 Finalist
My most recent photographic portraits build upon and create gender ambiguities, challenging the firm foundations of sex and gender within present day society. I use hair as a material and apply it to the images in collage form. Hair and facial hair are layered onto the photograph, post print. The outcome is an obscure and contemporary critique of the performative role that gender plays within our society. The sitter is Tessa Mcdonnell.
