‘This is a portrait of my son Arlen, lying on our living room floor one afternoon. Totally spontaneous, the decision to take the photo was inspired by the shape of his body. As I stood on the couch to frame the shot, Arlen raised his arm to cover his eyes from the flash. Upon viewing the developed image I was intrigued. Arlen appeared to be simultaneously still, and also spinning in mid-air. I have presented this image as a diptych in both orientations as it further enhances the sense of intrigue.’
Andrew Babarczy is a Naarm/Melbourne-based photographer whose work is raw, intimate and often speaks to human connection.
