War hero, 2013

by Peter Brew-Bevan

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2014 Finalist

On 3 April 2009 in the Tarin Kowt District of South Afghanistan, Damien Thomlinson's patrol vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device planted by the Taliban. The explosion caused extreme damage to much of his body, resulting in the loss of both legs. With a complete lack of self-pity and an incomparable passion for life, Damien is a living example of how determined and resilient the human spirit can be and is an inspiration to all.
