National Photographic Portrait Prize 2007 Winner
Lindy Lee's installation work Birth and Death comprises 100 Chinese accordion books, printed with images derived from family photographs of past and present generations. It was Lee's first major foray into the world of digital printing, aided and abetted by Rob Scott-Mitchell. Originally exhibited at Artspace in 2003, Birth and Death was recently included as part of the Sunshine State, Smart State show at the Campbelltown Arts Centre, during which Lee spent many hours meditating in the centre of the installation - sailing the blood-red ocean of 'not-knowing'.
Photography is the most pervasive and popular medium for portraiture and makes a natural fit with the Gallery, being a natural extension of the Gallery's longstanding commitment to photography as a contemporary portrait medium.
