National Photographic Portrait Prize 2009 Finalist
This is a portrait of a man in his work environment. I wanted to capture the essence of the environment we surround ourselves in. I think something happens when people are put into their own environment, walls fall down and a certain honesty and bare emotion is left behind. Philip is a radiographer, and this is the environment in which he spends eight hours a day.
In its second year at the National Portrait Gallery, and for the first time touring to other venues, the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2009 continues to present surprising perspectives on the nature of contemporary portrait photography.
