Mozart Street, 1975

Carol Jerrems

gelatin silver photograph on paper (image: 20.2cm x 30.3cm. sheet: 40.5cm x 50.4cm. frame: 54.7cm x 74.2cm)

Mozart Street was photographed on the same day as Vale Street, down the road in St Kilda. The trio doesn’t change, but here, Catriona Brown (b. 1954) embodies a different version of strength and femininity from the more famous photograph. Her arms are folded across her torso with casual ease, as if she is waiting for the younger boys who are taciturn and twist away from

the camera behind her.

In exchange for doing this photoshoot, Jerrems promised Brown headshots for her acting and modelling work. This frame appears to blend both objectives while fulfilling Jerrems’ interest in narrative tension.
