Jerrems photographed Noonuccal activist, poet, environmentalist and educator Oodgeroo Noonuccal (1920–1993) (also known as Kath Walker) at Moongalba on Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island. Throughout her life, Noonuccal aimed to promote cultural pride among Aboriginal people through her writing. In 1964, Noonuccal published the poetry collection We Are Going, becoming a leading literary figure and international advocate for First Nations peoples. She returned home to Minjerribah in 1971, where she established the Noonuccal-Nughie Education and Cultural Centre at Moongalba. There she taught Aboriginal Culture on Country to thousands of schoolchildren, educators and visitors.
