At the time she was photographed by Jerrems, Wiradjuri tennis champion Evonne Goolagong Cawley AC MBE (b. 1951) had recently won both Wimbledon and the French Open and been named Australian of the Year. In this photograph, Goolagong Cawley is bathed in a pocket of light against a dark, indeterminate background. Among the shadows of what looks like a domestic setting, but equally could be a change room, we notice incidental details; the silhouettes of other women to the left, a rack of clothes to the right. Goolagong Cawley is calm, steady and composed in the midst of what could be a cluttered and chaotic scene.
