This softly focused photograph is one of the first portraits of Jerrems and Esben Storm (1950–2011) together. It appears spontaneous and was likely made with a timer. Storm looks at Jerrems with a small, private smile, his distinctive profile creating some symmetry with the contours of her hair. Jerrems looks towards the camera, a heavy bag over her shoulder and a badge on her lapel that reads ‘You’re among equals’, which was a popular Australian feminist slogan from 1975. It is an aspirational sentiment to bring to a burgeoning relationship.
