Yumi Umiumare is a Japanese Butoh dancer, choreographer and teacher. This image was taken during a dress rehearsal of ZeroZero, a dance work in collaboration with Tony Yap and Matthew Gingold performed at the 2014 Melbourne Festival. ‘I remember the moment when Gregory got close to me and took this shot,’ says Umiumare. ‘I felt quite fragile as I’d been very busy with many arts projects, slightly overwhelmed both mentally and physically. But when touching the clean water and seeing my reflection, this sensation shifted to a gentle feeling of relief and calmness melting into the image of my own face.’
