Darling Portrait Prize 2022 Finalist
As a dear friend, a painter and architect with a great eye, Peter will often visit my studio to critique my paintings. A particular expression of Peter's captured my attention, a melancholic one, where his gentle eyes softened the harsher edges of his sharp nose bridge and well-defined cheekbones. I quickly rushed to translate this onto canvas and, without realising, four hours passed. As I took a step back and looked at the painting, I felt that this seemingly unfinished portrait of Peter was complete – it had captured the essence of a polished man who required no further refining.
