Darling Portrait Prize 2020 Finalist
Twenty years ago I played Susie Porter's sister in the iconic film Welcome to Woop Woop. To this day we remain the best of mates. During the two-hour sitting for this portrait we laughed and, as always, discussed life’s big issues. Susie is one of Australia’s best and most loved actresses; she takes on the tough, ugly, gritty roles that only a few dare tackle, and is able to convey, with compassion and joy, why and how her character exists. A big advocate for animal rights, no actress is braver or fights harder for their character’s story.
The Darling Prize is a new biennial prize for Australian portrait painters, painting Australian sitters. The winner receives a cash prize of $75,000.
