Bookings essential - free

We will guide students in creative activities, exploring remarkable individuals from the National Portrait Gallery collection. Through engaging discussions and drawing exercises, they will examine portraits of significant Australians, past and present. They will reflect on someone they believe deserves recognition for their contribution to the community.

Students will discuss the importance of acknowledging people who contribute to the community, examine notable Australian portraits, and create or plan a portrait of a community contributor. They will also write a statement about what the person means to them and the award they think the person deserves.

Teachers can submit student artworks to portrait.gov.au/myawesomeaustralian for a chance to be featured in the online exhibition, My Awesome Australian, sharing faces and stories from their community. All participants will be invited to the virtual launch of the exhibition hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, in term 3.
